NGSS Videography & Education

Under the direction of Dr. Crow White, I served on a team which worked to generate underwater videography under the next generation science standards (NGSS) guidelines. Part of my work was used for the DiVR 360 lesson plan, involving resource partitioning along a pier piling in Avila Beach, California. I was involved in acquiring and preparing an appropriate camera and lighting rig as well as AAUS-compliant protocol for securing a vertical transect tape along a pier piling during stormy winter conditions on the central California coast.

After this first successful revision, I then moved on to helping create another lesson plan around herbivory in coastal kelp forests. In collaboration with videography captured in Monterey Bay by Dr. Steve Lonhart, this highlighted the dynamic balance between sea urchins and local kelp species, while also explaining the significance of keystone species such as the southern sea otter.
